You can swap brake pads on an e‑bike with standard bike tools, but the extra weight and higher speeds mean you must choose the right pad compound and re‑seat the pistons carefully. This guide walks you through the entire job—from powering down to a final ride check—so you get reliable stopping power without damaging the…
You can build an electric bike using a car alternator as the drive motor, but the project is more of a proof-of-concept than a practical commuter. Alternators are not designed for motoring: they produce low torque at low RPM, overheat quickly, and require a specialized three-phase controller. That said, if you enjoy fabrication and electrical…
lets you match the motor, battery, and chassis to exactly the terrain you ride—and often costs half what a comparable production model runs. The core decisions are selecting a base frame, picking a motor type (hub or mid-drive), assembling a safe lithium-ion battery pack, and wiring a compatible controller. This guide walks through each step…
Yes, you can ride an e-bike without a display—pedal assist, throttle, and battery monitoring all work through other physical interfaces. Whether your display is broken, you have a budget model that never included one, or you deliberately removed it to reduce theft risk, the bike’s core functions remain intact. The trade-off is losing real-time speed…
Only a handful of production electric bikes can actually hit a true 40 mph out of the box – models like the Stealth H-52, Onyx RCR, and Rambo Megatron. Every one of them exists in a legal gray zone because they exceed the federal definition of an electric bicycle (750W motor, 28 mph max). If…
Walk mode is a low-speed assist feature that lets you push your e-bike beside you at walking pace (usually 3–5 mph) without straining to move the combined weight of the motor, battery, and frame. When you press and hold the dedicated button, the motor gently drives the bike forward so you can roll it on…
Quick answer If your two- or three-wheeled vehicle has fully operable pedals, a continuous motor rating of 750W or less, and cannot exceed 20 mph (28 mph for Class 3) under motor power alone, it’s an electric bike under federal law. Otherwise, it’s a motor vehicle (typically a motorcycle or moped). State rules may tighten…
The serial number on most electric bikes is stamped on the bottom bracket (the metal cylinder where the pedal crank arms attach) or on the head tube (the front of the frame just below the handlebars). If you don’t see it there, check under the removable battery, on the seat tube, or near the motor….
If your Jetson electric bike won’t power on, the motor cuts out mid-ride, or the display stays dark, start with the battery and safety interlocks. A discharged battery, loose connection, or triggered brake or kickstand sensor accounts for most no-power cases and can be checked in under five minutes with no tools. If the fault…
In Scotland, electric bikes that meet the UK‑wide “electrically assisted pedal cycle” (EAPC) criteria are treated the same as ordinary bicycles. You can ride them on roads and cycle paths without a licence, vehicle tax, insurance, or registration, and you are not required to wear a helmet. The key is that the bike must stay…
